Every parent wants their children to have an impeccable memory. Since only a sharp memory would help them to do well in their studies and in their lives. The parents go for just about any over-the-counter products that claim to be great memory boosters. However, what they must understand is that the real secret of memory enhancement lies in eating appropriate food. Here are a few ‘brainy’ foods that boost memory. Leading Dietitian for children, Avni Kaul shares some of the best foods to boost memory power.

The study on food and memory connection

The research done over last decade has reported sensational evidence of the effects of dietary factors on maintaining mental mechanisms. For example, a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids supports normal functioning of the brain cells. Whereas, diets that are high in saturated fats affect brain’s molecular system, which supports the memory.

The food that boosts memory

The human brain is a power-centre that commands the whole body. This has only 2% of the body weight, but it consumes the calories worth 20% of the total body’s intake. The perfect foods offer harmonious functioning of the brain. Make a diet plan based on the following foods for your kid, and watch the results in a short time.

  • Berries- The berries of all kinds including blueberries are full of phytochemicals that offer better memory, learning ability, and better intellectual skills. Make a smoothie of berries if your child does not like them raw.
  • Avocado- It is full of vitamins and has essential chemicals that help the brain cells.
  • Whole grains- Full of healthy carbs and other nutrients, whole grains are best for boosting memory.
  • Broccoli- A nutrients packed broccoli, is good for the memory as it contains vitamin and other phytonutrients to help brain cells grow stronger.
  • Nuts- Walnut is a good source of omega fatty acid-3 and so is almond. Let kid eat them regularly in any form, raw or added to other foods.
  • Green leafy vegetables- Include the ‘foods for brain’ veggies such as spinach, kale, mustard leaves, and celery. Its nutrients boost memory.

Remember, Food is your potent weapon against low memory level.
