Summers are here, and one of the best ways of getting some relief from thirst is by drinking any fruit-based juice that not only provides nutrition but also helps in staying cool. One such popular juice is sugarcane juice which is popularly known as “Ganne Ka Ras”. It is not just tasty but also provides a host of health benefits. Besides, India is also amongst one of the world’s largest producers of sugarcane.

That is why it is no surprise that sugarcane juice is available in every part of India. As far as the nutritional value is concerned, every serving of sugarcane juice of 28.35 grams have 111.13kJ (26.56 kcal), protein-0.27 g, carbohydrates-27.51 g besides having iron, calcium, sodium, and potassium.

This blog, by India’s top Nutritionist and Dietician Avni Kaul, shares some of the health benefits of sugarcane juice.

  • One very important factor is that sugarcane juice acts as a diuretic which means that it helps in treating UTI (urinary tract infections) and kidney stones by ensuring proper functioning of the kidneys.
  • Another health benefit of sugarcane juice is that it is rich in good carbohydrates, protein, iron, potassium, and other vital nutrients that makes it the ideal energy drink. Specially in the summer months, a glass of cold sugarcane juice helps to maintain your health by raising your depleting levels of energy. It forms plasma and body fluids which help in countering dryness and fatigue.
  • It helps in clearing skin imperfections.  When it comes to healthy skin, Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs),  which are part of the natural constituents of sugarcane juice,  have plenty of benefits. They counter acne, reduce blemishes, prevent ageing by keeping the skin hydrated.
  • This is good for your oral health. As sugarcane is rich in minerals, calcium,  and phosphorus, it’s juice helps in building tooth enamel and boosting it’s strength thereby making sure that the teeth do not decay.
  • It is also good for your immunity as it is a good source of vitamin C and antioxidants. The flavonoids present in the sugarcane juice help the body to stave off some of the cancerous cells. The potent antioxidants present also neutralizes the secretion of bilirubin levels in the body.

Please note, if you have a specific health ailment or if you are suffering from diabetes, ask your nutritionist or a doctor before you decide to drink sugarcane juice on your own.
