Today a large percentage of Indian urban population is sleep deprived, have high stress levels, they are physically inactive too and consumes very poor and untimely diet. Hence the number of people suffering from diabetes is increasing. However, this phenomenon can be controlled.

India’s leading nutritionist and certified diabetes educator Avni Kaul shares if people take timely action and consistently improve their lifestyle and diet, diabetes can be controlled or averted. She adds regular physical check-up, right and timely medication and proper diet is all that one needs to stay protected or control diabetes.

Nutritionist Avni shares if a person is detected with Pre Diabetes (a condition before type 2 diabetes) and if he/she changes their lifestyle by taking the right diet  – then type 2 diabetes can be delayed.

Nutritionist Avni Kaul shares that every human age, body composition, height weight and their cultural food habit is different. Hence every individual needs their own diet plan and this diet plan has to be upgraded with progress in weight loss and body metabolism. Thus a certified diabetes educator and a nutritionist can help a diabetic person by:-

Preparing your customized diet chart: The diabetes specialist nutritionist will study your blood test report, your prescribed medications by a doctor, will get your body mass index, understand your daily routine and food habits and then she will prepare your daily diet chart that will help your body to maintain healthy blood sugar level all throughout the day, without affecting your physical and mental activities.

The nutritionist will teach you how to count carbohydrates in your foods: Carbohydrate-counting is a method which is essential if you are taking insulin. Your dietitian will teach you how to control portion sizes and understand the importance of watching your fat and calorie consumption. This will manage blood sugar levels. She will also teach you Self Blood Glucose Monitoring.

The nutritionist will prepare a list of daily activities: Exercise is an important part of living well with diabetes. Hence your nutritionist will prepare a stage-wise exercise plan based on your daily routine and preferences. She will tell you how to start your walking, swimming, biking, or dancing, (whichever if your preferences) and progress with each stage.

Regularly monitor your body progress and upgrade your diet chart:The nutritionist will regularly (at least for the first 3 months) monitor your weight loss progress, improvement of your body mass index, blood sugar level and will upgrade your diet chart accordingly.
