Health Benefits and Procedure to Make as Suggested by Dietician Avni Kaul

This winter chill has been displaying no signs of subsiding soon. And while you are waiting to feel the warmth of the sun, all you can do is stay under the warmth of blankets, and quilts, or pile on your winter wear. But there is one more thing, says dietician Avni, that you can do to stay cozy this winter.

Here, India’s top dietician Avni Kaul shares a few drinks that will keep you warm and healthy.

Avni Kaul recommends these winter beverages that can be easily made using ingredients like ginger, lemon, honey, clove, etc which not only form heat in your body but also equip you to combat winter allergies and stuffy nose issues.

Also, since winter is a season when people tend to binge on weight-gaining food, some of these beverages promote weight loss also.

Turmeric latte

Your all must have heard from your mother or grandmother about Haldi Doodh! Right? Well, try this turmeric latte twist and thank mother nature for the warmth it brings to your body specially the heart.

Tip: Lots of people have dairy resistance. If you too suffer from this, substitute regular milk with coconut milk or almond milk.

Components of turmeric milk: It is an anti-inflammatory drink, maintains warmth of your body, helps in weight loss, and induces a  good night’s sleep.

Ingredients

Turmeric powder or raw turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, clove, Ginger, Honey, and Nutmeg (optional).

  • First, boil milk and mix turmeric powder or raw turmeric.
  • Add one pinch of black pepper for it helps to absorb turmeric.
  • Add one clove.
  • A bit of cinnamon.
  • Some ground ginger, can either be dry or fresh ginger.
  • 2 tsp of nutmeg.
  • Boil all this together and add a little honey.

Ginger, honey tea

Ginger is one of the oldest alternative medicines used. It has several benefits and helps in weight loss and curing winter allergies. It is a mandatory ingredient in your kitchen during winter. It also helps in the detoxification of our body.

Benefits: It keeps your body warm, prevents cold, boosts the immune system, and provides energy.

Ingredients: Ginger, raw honey, and cinnamon.

Preparation

  • Boil ginger in water.
  • Add some cinnamon.
  • Add honey, preferably raw honey.

Almond milk (Badam milk)

You all must have had badam milk during summer. When it is served chilled it beats the summer heat, but during winter it is beneficial for your immunity.

Benefits: Keeps your body warm, has a good blend of protein and fat and contains antioxidant properties.

Ingredients: Milk, 7 to 8 almonds, some saffron strands, and cardamom.

Preparation

  • Start with boiling the milk.
  • Take 7 to 8 almonds.
  • Beat the almonds in stone mortar and pestle.
  • Add 2 to 3 cardamom, and put it inside the milk when it is about to boil.
  • Turn off the gas.

Add saffron to the boiled milk. Saffron is a wonderful spice. 4 to 5 threads of saffron boost your immunity. It has strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer properties, and antidepressant properties.
