Eminent Diabetes Dietitian and Nutritionist Avni Kaul shares key diabetic diet tips

If you are a diabetic, then there are a few restrictions to your food consumption. Mindless eating may create a problematic health situation for you. So, it is better to stick to the foods that your Dietitian recommends so that you may lead a healthy life despite being a diabetic. And, the same logic is applied when it is about eating or not eating certain fruits.

India’s top Dietitian for diabetes, Avni Kaul, shares a few fruits that you should avoid if suffering from diabetes. Dietitian for diabetes Avni says that you can eat fruits but it is better to avoid those which have a higher sugar content than others.

Pineapple – A juicy piece of pineapple contains nearly 16 grams of sugar in each cup.

Figs – Figs are the perfect cookie filling because they are very sweet. A cup of figs contains nearly 29 grams of sugar.

Mangoes – Mangoes are liked by almost everyone.  But it is best to avoid eating them if you are a diabetic because a single cup of mango contains approximately 23 grams of sugar. So, opt for fruits with lower sugar content.

Cherries – One cup of cherries feels like the quintessential snack, but it could also send your blood sugar skyrocketing. One cup has 20 grams of sugar and will most likely leave you still feeling hungry.

Kiwi – Kiwi provides fruit salads a gorgeous green colour and a sweet flavour but be careful about the portion size. A cup of sliced kiwi has nearly 16 grams of sugar. Skip the kiwi and look for other citrus options.

Lychees – Lychees are sweet and juicy fruits. Lychee can also be used as a sweetener for desserts or cocktails. It contains a whopping 29 grams of sugar in each serving.

These are some of the fruits that you need to be wary of while consuming. It is suggested if you wish to eat those fruits being a diabetic, you should consult your Dietitian as they will guide you if you can eat them or not or in what portion. Similarly, they can also let you know the alternatives that you can consume if you enjoy eating fruits that way.
