It is uncomfortable to feed a baby in public, especially in an Indian scenario where even in today’s progressive times, it would be frowned upon. However, there is growing support for nursing mothers as more and more ladies are joining the workforce and excelling in their chosen fields. It is important to respond to your baby’s needs and since a mother cannot stay at home all the time, it would be advisable to follow simple tips to make breastfeeding in public a comfortable affair.

  • Most important is to wear clothes that allow easy access to your breasts to your baby. Envelope your baby in a sheet or a blanket so that the baby is comfortable and close to you.
  • Most stores and offices these days have women’s lounges or restrooms where it is comfortable and private enough to breastfeed your baby. While visiting a restaurant, face the wall or sit in a booth.
  • Breastfeeding in public though not always comfortable or convenient is inevitable if you do not intend to stay at home all the time. A baby needs complete commitment and that includes sticking to his feeding routine.
  • Breastfeeding your baby is the safest and most comfortable way of doing it whatever the surroundings may be. So be proud of your choices no matter what the naysayers crib about.
