Foods You Should Include In Your Diet During The Rainy Season

Table of Contents

After the extreme summer, the monsoons are finally here. It is a pleasant experience. However, these pleasing moments may get spoiled by undesirable health conditions like cough, cold, diarrhea, body ache or flu.

Nutritionist and Dietitian in Delhi, Avni Kaul say you can now enjoy these beautiful moments in monsoon without compromising on your health by paying some additional attention to the foods you eat.

If you are already following a particular eating style, make some alterations to your standard diet by including foods that act easy on your digestive system and at the same time boost up your metabolic rates.

In this article, Delhi’s top nutritionist Avni Kaul talk about foods you should include in your diet during the rainy season.

Garlic

Garlic is filled with antioxidants; these cloves are rich in immunity-boosting properties. Additionally, they ease your digestive system while making sure that your metabolic rate does not spiral down to a snail pace. While you can have crushed garlic pods to any food of your choice, one of the best and healthiest ways of enjoying garlic is garlic rasam. A spicy blend enriched with the pungent flavors of garlic and black pepper, it can be enjoyed along with rice or as a hot bowl of soup.

Ginger

The first thing that comes to mind when people think about rain in India is of ginger tea. The fiery nature of ginger livens up your mood and at the same time enhances your metabolism. Grate some fresh ginger into a cup of warm water and squeeze in a lemon. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey. Your regular dose of immune-boosting supplement is ready.

Turmeric (Haldi)

This wonder golden yellow colored spice powder is a well-known immunity boosting agent. It is a natural antiseptic and antibiotic agent also. And, this is one of the reasons you are asked to drink turmeric-infused milk when you get a bout of cough or fever. Turmeric is also known to keep the levels of blood sugar under control. You can drink a glass of milk with half teaspoon milk with 1 teaspoon of honey to protect yourself from monsoon related illnesses.

Black Pepper (Kaali Mirch)

Just add a dash of black pepper to your salad or soups and even to your khichdi. These fiery black beads are not only tasty but come with a brilliant dose of good health. A natural antidote for fever, cough, cold, body pain, flu, and several respiratory conditions, black pepper is a must to them as rainy season food. Prepare a spicy pepper soup with a tamarind base or just mix half a teaspoon of freshly crushed black pepper powder with equal quantities of turmeric powder and 2 teaspoon honey to milk and drink to stay healthy during the monsoon.

Pomegranate (Anar)

This is a perfect inclusion in a healthy diet, it is filled with vitamins, particularly vitamin C, that ensures that the protein in your body is suitably metabolized. This, in turn, makes sure that your digestive system is healthy and clean. It also boosts up the immunity power, thus helping you fight off the various illnesses.
