The refreshing monsoon season is here when everyone loves to gorge on their favorite roasted bhutta or dig into some hot, crispy fries such as pakodas and samosas. However, the monsoon season brings along its own sets of risks.

The risk of catching seasonal infections is at an all-time high during the monsoon specially the common flu and stomach infection. The high moisture content in the atmosphere makes your bodies susceptible to infections. Your diet can have a huge impact on how the body responds. So, it is important to follow these diet tips and make sure that one stays healthy through this disease-prone season.

Through this blog, Delhi’s top Nutritionist and Dietician Avni Kaul shares some important tips on diet and healthy eating for monsoon that will help you to keep diseases away.

Develop Immunity

With the high chances of infections spreading and communicable diseases becoming extremely common, enhancing immunity is crucial to good health. The immune system carries out majority of the body’s repair and restorative functions and also helps counter germs and infections. Keep your gut bacteria healthy by eating fermented foods like yogurt, idli, etc. Herb infused home-brewed teas and fresh home made soups are also good.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Monsoons means high moisture content in the atmosphere, but it is important to keep your body hydrated too. Therefore, keep drinking water at regular intervals during the day. Consume seasonal fruits like jamun, apple, pomegranate, and pineapple during this season to provide your body adequate hydration.

Avoid Infections

One of the best ways to avoid infections during monsoon is to keep a check on what is going into your body. Illnesses can be reduced by ensuring that the water one drinks are properly boiled and germ-free. Also,  consume only freshly cooked food and avoid eating raw food during this period. It means, even raw salads should be avoided during this period and vegetables should ideally be atleast steamed.

Maintain Proper Digestion

Vegetables and fruits are important to maintain your energy levels as well as keep the digestive system in control during the monsoon period. Try to avoid going out to eat and maintain a healthy diet while at home. Processed foods and heavy dishes are best avoided during monsoon season.
