Festivals have started during which we gorge on all sorts of delicious though unhealthy foods that are available in the market such as fried dishes, sweets, etc due to which our health routine goes out for a toss. Hence, it is important for everyone to detox so that their body can rest and recover.

There are multiple misconceptions about detox. The most common one is having to eat tasteless food. Dietitian Avni says one of the basic things that you need to understand is that a detox helps kick-start your metabolism and can actually be a very enjoyable task. It also means that you are required to give sugar intake a break. Here are five foods that are perfect to consume if you want to detox as shared by India’s top Dietitian Avni Kaul.

Coconut water

Coconut water or Nariyal paani is one of the healthiest and most preferred detox foods. It is low in calories and sodium and has no cholesterol or fat. It also works wonders on your skin by moisturizing it from the inside. It also improves your digestion.

Ginger and garlic

Ginger has medicinal qualities and lots of health benefits. Besides using ginger in your food, add it to your tea or infuse a few chopped pieces in hot water. Daily consumption is good for your liver. Garlic is another important detox food. It boosts your immune system and helps flush out toxins from your body.

Green tea

It is beneficial for detox. It is filled with antioxidants that destroy free radicals. Green tea boosts brain function, improves fat burning and decreases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Green leafy vegetables

Stock your refrigerator with fresh vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, asparagus, artichokes, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, celery and lettuce. Going green could do your immune system a world of good. Have a vegetable juice or salad and see the positive changes it makes to your body.

Foods with fibre

Foods such as nuts, legumes and lentils have generous quantities of fibre and are wonderful detox foods — they work well to cleanse your system from within. These are the 5 foods that will help you detox. As a bonus one, you can also have the sixth one in the form of:

Lemon

Have a glass of freshly squeezed lemon juice, ideally in the morning. This will flush out the toxins and help your digestion. Also, ensure that you follow a  sleep routine besides exercising regularly to be in the best possible body and mind.
