Ginger has several health benefits because of which it is used extensively. Like raw ginger, the “Saunth” or dry ginger powder is beneficial for your health too , says Dietitian Avni Kaul.

Saunth or the dry ginger powder is generally added to Churan or Kadha in most Indian homes. Like ginger, Saunth is also considered a powerhouse of nutrients that help boost digestion, treat headaches, help in weight loss, and promote gut health, among many more. It is also used extensively to counter the common colds and provide relief from soar throat.

How to use Saunth?

Though you could add it to kadha or tea, one of the preferred procedure of consuming saunth is by mixing the powder with clove powder and salt.

Preparation of Saunth or ginger powder at home

Dry ginger powder has always been a preferred choice for several people (for medicinal purposes) because of it’s easy availability. It is available in powdered form, which makes it easy to store, carry and consume. You can effortlessly make it at home too. Take a look at the steps.

  • • Wash, peel, and dry some fresh gingers.
    • Cut them into thin slices and sundry for 2-3 days.
    • Then allow it to dry for 4 more days at room temperature.
    • Once dried completely, blend it in a mixer grinder.
    • Store the dry ginger powder inside an air-tight jar.

However, always remember that moderation is the key. Also, it is advised not to randomly include saunth or any other food product in your daily routine without consulting a qualified Dietitian.
