It is a very common thing in an Indian household, to hear elderly people tell you to not drink water before or after a meal and during a meal. They are also quite particular about the temperature of the water they drink and like to drink room temperature and lukewarm water, instead of drinking cold water from the refrigerator. Even during the summer season, to quench their thirst, they use clay pots to keep the water cool but never use chilled water.

Dietician and Nutritionist Avni Kaul says that as a child, you may have found these things to be weird or slightly obsessive. You might have even thought that it is simply impossible to survive without refrigerated water, considering the hot temperature during the summer.

However, it turns out to be the practice of drinking warm water, particularly after meals will even help you in your effort to lose weight.

Consuming cold water during or after a meal, can make the oils in the food harder and create a fat deposition in the intestines. Warm water can also aid people who suffer from problems like gas and constipation. Bloating and decreased bowel movement is occurred due to the lack of water in the body. Drinking water, particularly warm water can assist in improving bowel movement and support digestion, and help you get rid of problems such as constipation. Good digestion is the key element to healthy weight loss, and warm water helps in keeping the digestion healthy.

Fact#3

Metabolism plays a big role in weight loss. Warm water helps increases body temperature, and thereby also enhances metabolic rate. The increased metabolic rate helps reduce calories, which is the foundation of losing weight. Drinking warm water also improves other functions such as the kidney and liver.
