When winter is here, can the wedding season be far behind? From getting together with your loved ones to bonding over food and dance, from reliving old memories to creating new ones, the wedding season is filled with excitement and expectations. And amid all this fun and frolic, glitz and glamour, one can hardly resist the delectable displays of mouthwatering food. This also means that your digestive system is bound to be affected and your fitness goals will go for a toss.

So, how do you strike a balance between your diet and your food cravings?

Delhi’s eminent Dietician, Avni Kaul shares a few tips on how to eat smart this wedding season so that you do not mess up your diet schedule.

Stay hydrated: It is the best way to keep all your health problems at bay and to give you that glowing skin. Weddings add to a lot of stress which is why you can suffer from dehydration that makes you feel uneasy and restless. Drink at least 12-16 glasses of water a day. Stock up on other hydrating drinks like orange juice, coconut water, lime water, etc.

Eat wisely: Plan your meals in a way so that you do not end up gorging on everything that looks delicious. Snack on fresh fruits, salads, and soups so that your stomach is full before the main course which will keep your diet in check.

Beware of the buffet: No matter how tempting the buffet might appear with its unlimited scrumptious spread, steer clear of refined carbohydrates like pizzas and pasta, bread, and buns, to begin with. Choose healthier options like stir-fried vegetables or dishes that are grilled or baked; and unrefined (complex) carbohydrates like brown rice, sweet potatoes, and quinoa. Pamper your sweet tooth while keeping a tab on your desserts. Limit yourself to one or two pieces of your favourite sweet instead of bingeing on it.

Eat small portions: While it is difficult to resist the lavish spread, you must exercise portion control and eat in moderation. Avoid taking multiple trips to the buffet counter.

Opt for lean proteins: Opt for lean proteins like low-fat cottage cheese, yogurt, chicken, etc. that will prevent overeating and keep your tummy healthier and happier.

Add probiotics to your wedding diet: Say goodbye to indigestion and bloating this wedding season with probiotics (aka good bacteria) like yogurt, kimchi, buttermilk, curd, idli, dosa, raita, etc.

So, if you want to stay fit as a fiddle this wedding season, don’t forget to follow the tips mentioned in this article and enjoy that guilt-free indulgence.
