New Delhi, India: At Udayan Care’s Women Empowerment Summit 2019, India’s top nutritionist and Dietitian Avni Kaul present insight on how Indian women can keep themselves fit and healthy in today’s digital age. She shared her views with some of the eminent women personalities and with hundreds of girls from weaker socio-economic backgrounds from 12 Indian cities at Udayan Care’s Women Empowerment summit.

Nutritionist & Dietitian Avni Kaul on the women empowerment seminar throws light on how growing influence of smartphones are posing a huge threat to today’s Indian youth in terms of physical inactivity, obesity crisis, depression, anxiety, and suicide. She further adds that today’s youth are simply not spending as much time with their friends in person or face-to-face, where they can really observe each other’s’ emotions and get that social support. And we know from lots of studies that spending time with other people in person is one of the best indicators for psychological well-being and one of the best protections against having mental health-related issues. Also, due to the impact of social media usage youth are at risk of developing a tendency of low self-confidence which often arises due to peer pressure. When youth are bullied on social platforms, they are not able to withstand them and tends to become anxious, depressed and due to the risen pressure, they are opting for suicide. Because they have lost the confidence to battle it out and survive.

Also, due to their overindulgence in smartphones, the youth are skipping physical activities which in return leads them towards obesity.
